14 Things I hate about your Instagram

Screen Shot 2014-06-24 at 10.01.12 AM

1. Don’t like your own photos Isn’t the point of posting photos for other people’s viewing pleasure? We already know you like it because you chose to post it for us to see. I know it can be frustrating looking at 59 likes just wanting that big 60 for self justification that people love you.

Image

2. Don’t tag yourself in your own photo I just need to know the point of tagging yourself in a photo that you posted on your profile of yourself? Did you think we would get confused? I need to know the purpose.

Image

3. Don’t post quote photos we know it’s  about a guy screwing you over. Yes, I see your photos of quotes “I’m better” “Be stronger” or the occasional google dive you took to find the perfect poem that represents your love for them, and how he lost a good thing. Grow up and eat your feelings like a normal adult. You’re not 13 anymore.

Image

4. Don’t post Marilyn Monroe quotes. No need to elaborate. Just stop!

Image

5. Don’t post photos of you at the gym. We don’t care. I can open a shape magazine of an actual photo shoot not your mirror selfie.

Image

6. We don’t need to see your shopping bags If you didn’t buy me shit. Most of us are in credit card debit. Don’t rub it in.

Image

7.  Kissing couples Unless this is your engagement photos or they died. No one cares that you two know how to lock lips.

Image

8. Blowing smoke Thanks for letting us know you can exhale.

Image

9. Excessive photos I appreciate everyone who uploads one every week. If it’s every 10 weeks I don’t trust you. Uploading 5 a day? You’re making me fucking crazy.

Image

10. #OOTD Unless you blog about your clothes… Stop taking mirror selfies with a chic pose.

Image

11. Over filtering
One filter will do just fine. Don’t think you created a masterpiece with heavy saturation and diffused glow. It just looks like a bad watercolor print.

Image

12.  Your 2 sentence long Hashtags

It’s definitely debatable on which one is more annoying… You having a saved a note of your hashtags for everytime you post a picture or you’re actually trying to be creative each time.

Image

13. Don’t be your own #WCW or #MCM
We are all laughing at you saying….
Image
14. Be smart on Instagram.
If you’re dating multiple people, looking for a new job, or added your grandma and didn’t think they knew how it worked. It’s not that hard to find incriminating evidence if you’re an asshole. Image

You might ask yourself well what is left to post? Get creative! Be funny! Not  every photo has to be of yourself or a timeline of your day. That’s what a fucking blog is for- Hello? Maybe it’s not important to inspire people anymore. I think it is?

Did I miss any annoying things you see on Instagram? Do I sound bitter? What accounts are your favorite? Always appreciate your comments & emails.

Here are a few Instagram accounts I suggest checking out.

My soul was mating with New York

Image

This post was completely difficult to write about, and it took me a few days to compose my feelings, memories, and photographs. To begin on

{ W H Y  } I decided to travel for 10 days in this city, starts off with being invited to a wedding. The remainder of my time was going to be spent on having the opportunity to do something nice for myself. Recently being broken up with gets you down in the dumps and I thought what better way to start my journey as a ME then to spend alone time in a city that never sleeps.

Here We Go

The Newly Weds

Image

Image

Image

A few months back I was invited to a wedding for Brian and Keith in New York City. The ceremony took place in central park! Such a magical experience to be not only in the presence of love but to be in one of the most beautiful parts of this city. It sounds cliche to say but words can not explain what emotions you feel watching two people share the love they have and also committing  their lives to one another. These two guys really know how to throw an epic wedding and reception. Forever thankful for the invitation.

Manhattan Life

Typical Tourist Behavior To start my Journey.

Image  Image

Image

Central Park Strolls As a teenager I never had a strong desire to read novels. Pressured by reading lists in high school I fell in love with Jane Austen. Most of my inspirations in life come from wanting to be a cool chick like her. So taking long romantic walks in the park alone is probably the closest connection I will have to her. But I’ll take it.

The Met

Image

I started my journey early because I had to check out of my hotel so I grabbed a coffee and snack to walk 2 miles. Once I arrived I sat on the Met steps just like Blair Waldorf (living out my gossip girl fantasy moments) finishing off my coffee.

Image

I love oil paintings. I love thick gold frames. I love collages of photos on the wall. Paint this wall black and let this be my living room. Who needs a TV when you can discuss such wonderful pieces of art?

 Image

I use to work for a designer

who told me to stop looking down and start looking up.

Best advice ever! My fantasy in life would be to have this ceiling and long hallways.

Image

This was the ONLY Fresco I remember from one of my extensive art classes. I felt very smart and cultured for 30 seconds.

The walk back from the Met ….. This was actually probably the scariest experience of my life. That sunday was the Puerto Rican parade which was taking place on 5th ave. I am not the best in large crowds just because I do get overwhelmed by huge groups of people, but I wasn’t really concerned because “Hey, I am in New York Baby.” However, I did not know that Puerto Rican’s were HUGE FANS OF SNAKES. So I am walking through crowds of drunk people dancing away and I feel something kind of taping my head every few seconds. Since this is a tree lined side walk I thought maybe I was having some leaves dropping into my hair and went to brush it off. To my surprise it wasn’t a leaf, Oh no, it was a freaking snake’s head from the man standing behind me. Yes, people a SNAKE WAS POKING MY HEAD (I have a real fear of snakes like can’t even see them on TV). So I rushed off to get away from him, but it was like once I saw the first one I began to notice all of them. I am not exaggerating when I say they were everywhere, even a man opened a cooler with snakes in them to pass out like a party favor. As soon as I got out of the park I ran to the nearest bar and ordered a big girl drink. Literally, the scariest experience of my life.

In the Sky

The Empire State Building

Reflecting back to my whole Affair to Remember and Gossip Girl days … I was ecstatic to be this high in the sky with the romantic views of this concrete jungle. Being such a huge fan of architecture it was very impressive to see man’s creation. However, I did have slight anxiety looking down. Being an over thinker it made my mind drift to the victims of 911 and the terror they must have felt being this high up. It made me remember the importance of keeping those people in my hearts and remember them on the day they lost their lives.

Lower East Side Life

Baby Cakes – All vegan all gluten free

Need I say more? This was the cutest little bake shop ever. Also, having food allergies makes most sweet treats off limits. Have no fear of  the millions questions on what ingredients  are used. EVERYTHING’s DAIRY FREE and GLUTEN FREE oh did I mention Tastes AMAZING! Also, having  a nice little coffee with almond milk helps to  wash it all down.

Hotel Chantelle

What a magical little rooftop bar with CHARMING tables and floors. I came here on Saturday for brunch where they play LIVE Jazz music and have 92 cent drinks. Yes, I repeat 92 Cent drinks! Not only is that the perk, but if you love seafood well you are in for a treat. They have a great affordable raw bar menu. I think we spent 4 hours here listening to the beautiful music, enjoying the weather, and getting drunk for 5 dollars.

Grand Central Station

Image

This is a destination you have to look up and admire the beautiful architecture and lighting. It’s such a romantic atmosphere with the vaulted ceilings and oversized chandeliers. Reminded me a little bit of the castle from a fairy tale.

Image

Image

This charming Oyster Bar has been open for over a 100 years. My friend Rachel told me her grandfather had to travel into the city for work and would stop off here and grab some oysters before heading back home. A little piece of family history in this beautiful establishment.

HELLLLLLLOOOOO BROOOKLYN

Being overly excited about staying in Brooklyn for 8 days is the understatement of the year in my life.

ImageImage

ImageImage

Crossing over to the beautiful and wonderful city of BROOKLYN leaving Manhattan in dust. Visiting New York City was a vacation me and mom always took. However, we never made it to the other side of the bridge. This was my first time crossing over the bridge and I think I did it with too much joy. I was so happy to finally pretend to be a Brooklyn Girl!

Greenpoint

Let me just start by saying I chose to hang out in Greenpoint because I heard it was super hipstery. To be honest this is where Hannah lives in Girls and like why would I not pretend to be her for a day or two? The HARDEST part about traveling alone is not having anyone to take your pictures. It was a selfie central outside of Hannah and Marnie’s Apartment.

Aside from GIRLS – this is hipster central. I just looked around and said “these are my people.”

Bar Hopping is REQUIRED HERE.

The Bounty

This Charming Little Restaurant & Bar was a great find to start the night off. They have a roasted cauliflower, rice, and sautéed greens plate which is great with one of their local cocktails. If you’re a meat eater there are plenty of options on here for you!

The Pencil Factory

ImageImage

This little slice of heaven for all walks of life. This bar is in a old pencil factory and has some unique qualities. There is exposed brick, string lighting, multi-level, and did I mention 33 beers on tap? It’s a great place to get a drink, admire cool decor, and meet interesting locals.

Black Rabbit

Image

Image

This is a local bar and they know when you are not a local. Mainly, because you order a Whiskey and Ginger Pure and it’s shots NOT a drink. Also, when you drink the Whiskey first then Ginger that’s so “not local.” Learned the hard way. They have a really cute outdoor patio for the day time!

Oak & Iron

Image

This bar does allow dogs. Which is amazing right? Upon arrival there was a german shepherd at the bar. Felt too weird to ask for a photo of proof for my fellow bloggers This was the last stop of the night and the bartender was so friendly he gave us a free drink. Must check this place out the decor was very awesome.

Here is some GREAT STREET ART on the way to the subway.

This was nice little bar I checked out. I heard they had a great rooftop bar. Unfortunately, the night I went it started to rain. There was so much overcast I couldn’t see that million dollar view. The bar downstairs was awesome and I got to watch the Spurs beat the heck out of the Heat!

This was a Jane Austen moment for me. Beautiful gardens tucked away here in Brooklyn. Walking around the neighborhood you would never imagine this was hiding behind the walls. Great place to come and enjoy a nice stroll with your lunch. No alcohol allowed  (checked first)

The Mets

Had a great opportunity to check out the METS play while I was visiting. All thanks to my awesome wedding date! Also, they have a HEALTH BAR where you can get your veggie and gluten free on. Two Ladies were very happy to enjoy a hot dog and cider like normal americans.

Goodbye Brooklyn

Screen Shot 2014-06-17 at 9.55.37 AM

Saying goodbye to New York (especially Brooklyn) was hard. I mean really hard. What I realized though was for the first time in along time I actually had a dream worth chasing again. I was inspired by this city and literally everything I did was an experience. Everyone had told me there would come a time when I would begin to heal my wounds from my break up and be content with moving on. This journey really set that in motion for me. For the first time in many years I actually did something for myself instead of someone else.

It was liberating.

The medicine for life is adventure, and to do something scary on your own was rewarding for me. It gave me a sense of confidence I did not have  in a while.

I say if you get the chance to travel. DO IT. Even if it’s alone or in a city where you only know a few people. It’s not that scary to sit in a restaurant alone or  grab a book and lay in a park for a few hours. Loving yourself & being true to yourself is the only way you will make it in this world happy!

Stay Adventurous!

Started blogging because being opinionated on my facebook status was getting old.

I’m a bad liar, and I’m happy about that.

Image

Growing up I was terrible at lying to my mother. Mainly because I do not have that great of a poker face and I never really understood why someone would waste their energy lying. This doesn’t even just apply to relationships! Think about the students who lied about why they couldn’t finish their homework or take the test that day. Now in adult life there always seems to be people lying to cover up what they did wrong, why it couldn’t be done, and who is really to blame. Sometime, even our closest relationships lie to us, friends and family included. Is it really that hard to just say….

“Hey, I did this wrong. Won’t happen again.”
“Sorry, I know we had plans but I just don’t want to go out.”
“Yes, I am at a bar even though I told you I was asleep. Whoops.”

These are the different type of liars I have encountered. Can you relate?

Image

The Fact Checker:
These are the people that you have to know their coordinates on the map the moment that they lied before they will even begin to admit their guilt. Fact checkers are the most stubborn and probably the hardest to get the truth out of. My suggestion is always come with the facts before you even try to tackle that beast. If you try to fib your way through just a portion of what you think happened, they will hold onto that one error and you lose all credibility.  There is no way they are admitting anything to you until you present them with the correct evidence.
** I think if you dated someone like this and the relationship is now over. Be thankful, because having to collect the data to bust them just isn’t worth it for the long haul. You don’t want to spend your life like a LAW & ORDER interrogation room.**

Image

The Silencer:
These are the people that you confront them with the lie, and they just say nothing. They have no reason or excuse they just go completely silent. I don’t really know how you can begin to get these people to tell you the truth. The way they see it
Hear no evil, See no evil, Speak no evil. If you’re having a one sided conversation there is no point in wasting your energy on a dead end.
** I think this is more common with text messages/social media/online dating then face to face. However, I have had a few friends who I say something about the flaw in their version of a story, and there is a long pause and followed up by a shrug. Can’t win. **

Image

The Long Story That Never Makes Sense: (always involves a disaster)
This seems to be the go to for most women. We think the longer the story the more truthful it sounds. No. Just NO!
It’s always involving something with work, animals, cars, or sickness. All of these disaster happen back to back in a 30 minute time frame so that’s why they can’t get coffee with you even though you’ve been at starbucks for 15 minutes waiting on them.
** At my first job a girl asked me to cover her shift  because she stayed up all night studying, then her car was broken into, and her cat was throwing up so she had to take it to the vet. Newsflash, just say “Hey, can you cover me”. **

Image

You’re Crazy:
There is always someone throwing it back at you when you confront them about a lie. It’s all of sudden reverse psychology. What they did wrong wasn’t apparently wrong until you found out about it and called them out. Because that makes sense?
** This is like a guys GO TO for covering up their own lies. I dated this guy who told me he was going to a concert with his friends from work. Apparently, his phone “died” but lucky for me I peeked over to an Instagram page and there my boyfriend was sitting at a concert with another girl in his lap. However, I am the crazy one for finding it on his coworkers Instagram. It’s not crazy if you’re right. It can’t be that challenging to be a good guy, but I’m the crazy one. **

Image

I Lied Because I Had To:
There are people out there that truly believe they can’t tell you the truth because maybe you can’t handle it? maybe you will over react? maybe you will not be understanding to what happened? Regardless of the reason you did something wrong, and you just have to accept that and be honest. The rest is out of your hands to how they react!
** Growing up this was probably everyones favorite excuse for a lie to their parents. When I was a junior in Highschool my spanish 3 teacher had such a thick accent literally everything she said in english sounded like spanish. I never knew what the hell was going on. When we got our grades for the semester it was no surprise I had 48 in the class. Trying to hide this from my mom was not the best idea, because she was going to  find out when I had to take summer school. However, I just believed I had to lie to her because she wouldn’t understand and over react. The longer I waited the worst it got. I didn’t have my car most of my junior year.”***

My thoughts on Lying?

Image

It just seems exhausting having to remember all of your lies and who you told what to. Maybe for some people it’s not? I just know it has to be really exhausting to pretend to be someone you’re not or doing something you didn’t or did do and having to keep track of those lies. It’s okay to hurt people’s feelings because that is LIFE! In the end I say it’s better to tell the truth even if it sucks the big one. You will be a better person because of it and people will be able to appreciate your honesty.

Honest people are a dying breed.

Grab the wine! Grab the Hammer! Single lady craft night.

It’s no mystery -I am unemployed -I am bored. I needed a creative outlet-Craft Night!

Screen Shot 2014-05-29 at 6.36.22 PM

Lately, I have been in a creative funk. Last month I moved into a new place that was much smaller then my previous home. I had to get rid of a substantial amount of furniture for my little shoe box I’m in now. However, it was a relief to get rid of most of the stuff and downsize. Some of the pieces I have kept were a “work in progress” but my day time job had always prevented me from having energy to tackle it. I had this book shelf that was plain and simple like Parsons style which I purchased from ikea (of course). What I love about this bookshelf though is the large size, but also there was no backing. I have always wanted to give it a cool pop of color, and by pop of color I mean black, silver, grey, or gold. Let’s start the breakdown: Supplies: Image

Wine is the most essential supply. It allows patience!

2 Large Sheets of Foam Core, Hammer,Staple Gun, X-Acto Knife, Nails, Pins, and Fabric

Before Picture:

Image

I dusted everything off to make sure the surface was clean. Then I took my measurements for the backing and cut down my foam core with the X-Acto knife.

ImageNext, I took my two sheets of foam core to make sure my measurements were correct. Luckily, they were (I am pretty bad at cutting). Then I took my fabric laid it down with the pattern facing the floor. I placed my foam on the top of the fabric and trimmed down the access fabric to make it easier to pin.

You will  want to stay under 4 inches so you can stretch out the fabric. Then take the pins and begin pulling the fabric and pining it to the board. Make sure it stays tight.

Results:

Image

I flipped it over to check if the fabric was pulled enough. I had to make a few adjustments. Then I flipped it back over to where the pins were to use the staple gun to secure it. Then I removed the pins.

Install the panels:

Image

I laid the bookshelf down and lined up the  panels on the back. Then I took the hammer and the nails to secure the boards into the back of the shelving.

NOTE: If you live alone it’s not a smart idea to lay a heavy piece of furniture on the floor because when it comes time to pick it up. Problems my friends. Big problems!

Panels Successfully Installed:

Image

Wasn’t totally loving it at first. The pattern seemed super bold and didn’t match up.

Final Product

Image

Head On View

Image

I do love it now that I have some items to break up the pattern.  I have a few more knick knacks that I would like to add, but thus far I am happy with the result. I am still missing a dining room table, and NO I do not want to discuss how unhappy that makes me.

This project took about an hour, 2 glasses of wine, 80$ in supplies. Hope this helps all you creative ladies in a funk!

We have to talk about more then what we eat, who we are dating, and when we worked out last.

Screen Shot 2014-05-27 at 11.13.19 AM

I wake up in the morning throw on my shoes to walk over to coffee bean for my morning coffee. Phone in my hand I begin my daily scroll through what people have been doing while I’ve been unconscious for a few hours. It’s really never a surprise that the normal posts or status consist of  selfies, working out, food, or feel good quotes. I am certainly guilty of having these on my page too and I can acknowledge that I’m being hypocritical.

Lately, I have noticed when I am talking amongst friends we are talking about things I don’t even care to talk about!

What we ate that day…If we have worked out this week… If we are talking to anyone new…. Like there has to be more to talk about then this ? Right?

Here are some of the things I look up in the morning to see what is going on in the world I live in today.

Image

Huffingtonpost.com A year ago I changed my homepage to The  Huffington Post with the hopes of not burying my head in the sand on what is happening in the world. It was probably the best change I have made this year. Everyone should really be reading about what is going on in Ukraine right now.

Image

This is a topic I often look into about the progression of  mental illness , and what we know now. I feel like there are so many people in my life that have suffered from some sort of mental illness or even reading about people in the news who are going through it. It only seems appropriate to educated yourself on this because it does help you understand and become less judgmental against those going through this battle.

Screen Shot 2014-05-27 at 10.21.17 AM

CNN is a great source to look at too! They have a great selection of topics , the one I click into most is  Opinions. This article on Aids was something I found interesting because this past weekend I watched The Normal Heart. Being a person who knew only about AIDS from a hospital pamphlet-  articles like and this movies that shed light onto this disease help educate yourself on this global pandemic. For starters did you know the first case of HIV that was acknowledged by our government was in 1980’s? I didn’t. That’s less then 35 years ago. It’s pretty insane because I was under the assumption it was the 1960’s.

Screen Shot 2014-05-27 at 10.45.37 AM

Life.Time.Com is actually a great starter for anyone who  finds the news boring. They have great galleries of photos from the 20’s to present day. It is a great way to pass time other then looking at US weekly if you ask me. Then you can poke your toes into the water of other topics on their site!

Maybe we won’t stop talking about what we ate today or gossiping about our lives. I have hope that we can all take the time to just attempt to broaden our horizons and discuss meaningful topics that have some substance. That maybe we will learn new things that make us less harsh and judgmental because we have allowed ourselves to be educated. That we can teach each other new things, and learn from one another. Just maybe.

Endorphins are bullshit.

Image

Everyone talks about how great exercise makes you feel because you release endorphins. Endorphins make you happy and happy people are good people.
Bullshit.
Image
Then people who love to workout talk about how “You just have to keep doing it then you will love it”
Bullshit.
Image

I do it because I have to – not because I want to. Personally, I know I  have to be healthy and proactive because of my family medical history. Aside from that  everyone should be apart of getting out and doing stuff you enjoy. Don’t get sucked into the idea you have to be in a gym trapped in the four walls of fluorescent lighting, and running in place like a hamster in their ball.

Do stuff you like to do!

I love to hike. I hate snakes, but I hate gyms more. So I get up and go to hiking trails , because even though I am lazy it’s something I enjoy (depending on the heat) and can do without a shrugging.

Don’t let people bully you into doing shit you hate. Find something! The hard part is having to try new things, but in the end you might just find something you like and are good at !

Mistakes Girls Make

What I have learned from dates.

1.Guys think it’s sexy when you laugh at their jokes just not with a mouth full of water.

Image

2. They think we all dance like strippers, but really it’s a Yo Girl dance.

Image

3. If they talk about how much they love the gym “what about you” your response is:

Image

4. You show up like this… and they say “I like natural”

Image

5. It’s cute when you trip and he’s there to catch you. Not when you are drunk and just eat it.

Image

6.  Then guys  are like ” I really like you, let try this” …  and you’re like “You really like me”. Keep somethings a mystery. Unless you’re into it.

Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 10.18.55 PM

7. You think it’s cute to tell him how you feel. Guess what, he doesn’t.

Girls-Gif

8. Then you try to take it back and……

9. You see them after you’re over it.

11. Oh , wait. No.
